Very few of our users use Sieve, and those do use SmartSieve. So what I 
did was customize the SmartSieve login to translate "user@domain.tld" to 
"user_domain_tld" upon submit via some regular expressions. Works 
reasonably well; its a simple change but needs to be done in each 
application using Sieve.

Creating a full Sieve proxy/middleware system that looks at LDAP to find 
UIDs seems like quite a bit of work.
