Hello,

i got no real experience with this, but ldap is by its name an lightweight
directory service. It has less features than a "Database Server", which
should make it faster than mysql.

Microsoft uses Ldap for their Active directory.

So basically its the best protocol/technical solution for this case of
implementation.
How well openldap performs against some (maybe better tuned in the
executable itself) mysql i dont know.
