Thank you Atif, but maybe I didn't explain myself well enough
(or I don't understand your answer).
Let's say that we host the mail for company.com, and that
company.com has 10 email accounts. 9 of these accounts
are handled in the "normal" way (ie: sent to a local
maildrop). 1 user wants their email to be forwarded
somewhere else (that user does not use a mail system
controlled by ispman). In other words, bob@company.com
wants his email to be forwarded to bob@hishome.com, where
bob will never log into the bob@company.com account (so
he doesn't want any mail stored there), and hishome.com
is not controlled by ispman.
Coming from a sendmail background, what I would have done
in this case is to create an entry in the virtusertable
that maps the 9 "normal" users to local accounts, and then
map bob@company.com to bob@hishome.com. This is very
similar (exactly the same?) as using postfix's virtual
table.
However, under ispman, the postfix virtual table is kept
in ldap. In my case:
virtual_maps = ldap:ldapvirtual
ldapvirtual_server_host = localhost
ldapvirtual_search_base = o=ispman
ldapvirtual_query_filter = (|(mailLocalAddress=%s)(mailAlias=%s))
ldapvirtual_result_attribute = mailRoutingAddress,mailForwardingAddress
Ignoring the mailAlias part, I think this means that if a
mailForwardingAddress is found, then mail for mailRoutingAddress
will be forwarded to mailForwardingAddress. But this
keeps a copy of the message at mailRoutingAddress, which
will eventually fill to quota and stop accepting mail.
It seems to me (and I could be wrong) that something in
ispman is treating the information in postfix's virtual
table more like a ~/.forward file, instead of a virtual
table. What I mean is that in a virtual table, you could
do something like:
1) user1@company.com sam
2) user2@company.com sue@this.com
3) user3@company.com sally@that.com
4) ...
5) bob@company.com bob@hishome.com
6) @company.com bob@company.com
I need to be able to do line 6, which a ~/.forward file
cannot do. I also need to be able to do line 5, without
keeping a copy of the message at bob@company.com's mailbox.
Can I do these with ispman?
By using the "Mail Forwarding" section, ispman does
forward the message to bob@hishome.com, but it keeps a
copy at bob@company.com, which is what we do not want.
I hope that makes sense.
thanks,
Robert
