I'm sorry, I can't make out what you are saying. Are you saying that ISPs 
are now requiring a public ASN even when there is no need for externally 
visible unique routing policy to the rest of the internet ? Or are you 
saying I have a case ?


Maybe I'm not being very clear. Let me try again. I want to use a private 
ASN - like 65001 for example, to peer with an upstream (Sprint) to 
announce routes that will never be seen by the rest of the internet - 
just my upstream - to control ingres routing.

I'm getting pushback saying you have to have a public ASN. This makes no 
sense and is contrary to the spirit beyond the concept of an ASN. I don't 
need a unique routing policy that is *different* from Sprints. I don't 
need visibility of my prefixes beyond Sprint's AS.

Why do we need to exhaust ASN supply, and add yet another /24 to routing 
table bloat (as getting an ASN will now make my prefix de-aggregated) when 
I am simply multi-homed to the *same* provider.

I have read the RFC you mentioned before. It supports my position. Folks, 
UUNet used to do this all the time (been a year+ since I worked with them, 
Savvis does it, and other providers have to in the past).

Maybe I'll ask around elsewhere.
