Netchk does not flash the icon in the bottom right toolbar.

You have to run it manually each time from a DOS windows when you want
it to check to see if there are security fixes available.

The one you are talking about is the Critical updater, which does stink.
And works with the Windows Update.

I was just wondering about it, because I have seen other programs like
this that send information about your system without your permission
back to the company who wrote it.

I was just curious to see if this one does that also before I install
it, because once it in there, you have to modify your registry to hand
to get rid of it.

Hi David,

>From what I can tell the only info sent out is versions of
>programs/files on
your computer. From there they are checked and compared for updated
versions. If one is available, it tells you what the patch is for,
provides a link to M$ site for further reading and a link for
downloading and installing. You can of course not perform the download
and the required updates stays in a window telling you it's required.

I have used the netchk from M$ but the Big Fix sits in the try and
checks every so often and flashes it's icon if there is an update or
security fix available. You can also, quit the tray icon so it doesn't
always run and just run it manually when you want to ...

I have only checked it out myself so I was wondering if anyone else was
using it or knows about it.

Regards,

Steve
