FTC Commissioner Swindle to Discuss The Impact of The Patriot Act on
Consumers' Privacy And Corporate Privacy Policies

Commissioner Orson Swindle of the Federal Trade Commission
(http://www.ftc.gov/bios/commissioners.htm#Swindle) will be available
on Thursday, November 29th after 3 p.m. to discuss the impact of the
recently enacted Patriot Act on consumers, corporations and Internet
commerce. Commissioner Swindle's availability follows his
participation in an audio conference call hosted by Communications
Daily titled, "Privacy and the New Antiterrorism Act."

Commissioner Swindle, a long-time advocate of market self-regulation,
will focus his remarks on how the recent terrorist attacks have
affected privacy issues. "In the minds of many, privacy may be
perceived as being of lesser importance than it has been in the recent
past due to the terrorist threat," Swindle has said. "It would appear
that some are willing to sacrifice privacy for greater security in
light of the threats. Finding that delicate and appropriate balance
will be a challenge."

Media representatives wishing to speak to the Commissioner about his
views should contact Derick Rill, FTC Office of Public Affairs, at
202-326-2472.
