A group of crackers claims to have access to critical TV control systems
at Time Warner Cable in the Los Angeles area, where they say they can move
broadcast satellite downlink dishes and send text messages scrolling
across home television screens.

"The first location we gained access to was their channel modulator," said
a 24-year-old cracker from California calling himself "optiklenz."  He
described the software as "a device which allows us to change a channel's
[frequency] and data feed, usually used to fix static transmission." 
Optiklenz and four other crackers, who go by the names "flemming," "tip," 
and "aphex," are members of a group called Legions of the Underground.
They also had help from an anonymous member of the group Masters of
Downloading.
