You can create a symbolic link to the 2.2 firmware with the ipw2200_boot.fw 
name.  It does work, but for me my system logs filled up with ....
	ipw2200: Unknown notification: subtype=25,flags=0xa0,size=4
if I used the 2.2 firmware.  No problems at all with the 2.0 firmware.
