Downgrading from ip-filter-3.3.16 to version 3.3.10 enables ftp
clients like efs (xemacs/emacs) to work with the ftp-proxy.  There may
be features in 3.3.16 that I will miss, but the loss of xemacs/efs
functionality, which allows virtually transparent editing of files on
remote machines, was too much to give up.

The ftp-proxy in ip-filter3.3.16 works with the command-line ftp in
Sparc-Solaris-2.6, but not with xemacs/efs.
