I got IPFilter3.2.11beta4 (thanks for the link Dan) and followed the
instructions laid out at http://www.freebsddiary.com/freebsd/upgrade31.htm
and http://false.net/ipfilter/1999_02/0100.html. IPFilter compiled
fine...finally! The part that's getting me now is when I'm compiling the
IPFILTER kernel. Just like Laurens van Alphens stated in his post on 25
Feb., make stopped on an error regarding iplaction. What he said was this...

whoops.. some error in mlf_ipl.c (or .o for
that matter). just comment out the function
that is defined but not used: iplaction (line 175)

I sort of understand what he's saying to do, but I don't know when in the
process I'm supposed to do it. If I edit
/usr/ports/net/ip_fil3.2.11beta4/mlf_ipl.c prior to doing # make freebsd30,
I get errors when I do # make freebsd30 that are obviously related to the
changes. If I go thru the whole process and edit mlf_ipl.c just before I
do # make when I'm compiling the IPFILTER kernel, I still get the same
error. i noticed that the error actually references a file called
mlf_ipl.o, but the only file I see with that name is in the IPFILTER kernel
compile directory. When I open that up in an editor, it's garbage
characters (actually, it's most likely some sort of code, but I'm no
programmer, so it may as well be garbage).

Anyways, hopefully I've described the situation well enough. If someone
who has done this could help me out, I'd be very grateful.

Thank you,

Daniel Frazier
