Sorry, can't help you much about either question.

I've installed 3.4.33pre1 on a Solaris 9 x86 box 3 weeks ago, no problem 
yet, but it's not under heavy use.
I've also a 3.4.31 on a small Solaris 8 x86 server, which has been up 
167 days so far.
