A while back there was a great deal of discussion about the nuisance of the
IP3000 indexing
of web sites. They hit you several hundred times per day and download all
the images
from your site, ostensibly to create an image database but that is
bogus. They have been
saying that on their sites for a year, that this searchable database is
coming. They never respond to anyone's
inquiries about their activities. Their real purpose seems to be
to snoop for alleged copyright infringements and then sell this information
to the supposed owners.
Regardless its just a drain on your site, as you can see from your web
logs. There have also been
reports of denial-of-service attacks originating from them.
At any rate, a few months ago when everyone was blocking them their address
range was one
thing, but evidently they are moving around to circumvent this (or being
kicked off one ISP to get another)
The current addresses to be blocked based on my research are
216.200.195.53 to .62 and 208.185.131.199 to .222
they go by various domains now and you can see their stories on those
sites. Some of their
new domains
are davesengine.com petersnews.com bitshark.com agentm.com imagelock.com
and brandata.com and the ip3000 domain is now obsolete. This seems part of
their evasive stealth action.
I have copied all their listed contact addresses on this email as
well. Maybe they'd like to respond to the list.
