FWIW, this has been my experience as well. I've also seen middleboxes that
were incapable of being configured to allow connections to last more than
99 minutes (two digit field).

Always suspect a middlebox even when people say there isn't one. These
things are all over the place and people may never have been told they
are present (or were told and simply forgot).
