I have read through pretty much all the related online documentation
regarding text handling within images - But I have a problem which I cannot
solve and I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction.

I want to print a random line from a "message of the day" file into a speech
bubble on an image which I then plan to use to make my website a little more
dynamic by running the script in cron each day. - OK - done the basic
scripting but have a problem with the image processing (using the
imagemagick convert command)

So basically the text is a variable length but the speech bubble area is a
fixed.

So this is where it gets tricky - I want to be able to confine the text of
the "motd" into the area of the speech bubble of the original image. Ideally
I need it so that the font size will scale depending on the length of the
MOTD.

>From reading through your notes I should be able to achieve this with the
label function (I think), but I cannot work it out.

Any help you can offer would be appreciated - it may be that i can't do it -
please let me know

Cheers,

Chris
