Friends, I am able to hibernate my system by some tweaking (increasing swap
space).
I did some research and had a rough idea about why it didn't hibernate and
then increased the swap space by following this link (
http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2010/08/how-to-add-swap-space/) and now
hibernation is possible.
