Medibuntu repo is crucial for multimedia. Here is a link to add
medibuntu repository,

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

then install non-free-codecs package,

$ sudo apt-get install non-free-codecs

Thats all, your linux will play whatever media format you give.
