Booted hipster LiveDVD.  format crashed w/ a segment violation.  Same thing w/ the \
installed system.

Looking at the output of various commands and the calls collected by truss, I think \
that there's a query for disk information which has a 1k buffer.  The error return is \
not trapped and when the query is made it causes a memory fault in format.

The man page suggests it's been disabled by the fault manager.
