Subject:    ICU mailing lists changing to "mailman"

Dear friends of ICU,

Some of you have received a notice today that they are now subscribed to the \
icu-announce list etc. Yes, you had been subscribed anyway - this is what's \
happening:

The oss server in general has been upgraded last year with an adaptation of \
SourceForge. This means that new projects use a standard form of CVS, mailing lists, \
bug reporting, download pages, and so on.

ICU is now joining in with some of this new system by migrating its mailing lists \
from majordomo to mailman.

For you, us, this means in practical terms that subscription, unsubscription, request \
for digest mode, holding of mail delivery and such are now partly possible for the \
first time, and can be chosen with a web form instead of via special request emails \
to the majordomo address.

This should make it easier for us to handle the mailing lists. One ICU-special way of \
doing things is handed off to the oss admins doing as much as possible the same way \
for all projects. We hope that this change will improve the usability and the \
stability of our services.

*** During the migration of each mailing list there will be an outage of about 2 \
hours. Please be patient with us.
