I can tell you what I did: I sent my Hx4700 off to be repaired, since I
definitely didn't feel confident tackling such a repair myself.  You can
send it off or get the parts and fix it yourself, if you are
bold/experienced enough.  There are plenty of sites offering repairs,
e.g. ipaqrepair.com, ipaqrepair.co.uk, pdasmart.com - try searching for
'hx4700 ipaq repair'.
