Finally.  Turns out that patching is only needed if using GCC 4.2.  So
we'll simply use GCC 4.1 for now.

contain all the information you need.  If you have a fast machine, fast
internet connection and some two or three GiB of hard disk storage to
``waste'', then please test and report back.
