That's great.  But please be more precise when saying what you tried.

I know what this means.  I'd have said:

new gnumach -> new boot script -> new hurd

> 	New GNU/Mach, compatability boot code, new Hurd.
> 	New GNU/Mach, compatability boot code, old Hurd.
> 	Old GNU/Mach, compatability boot code, new Hurd.

I'm not sure precisely what these mean.  I'm guessing:

new gnumach -> new hurd's serverboot -> new hurd
new gnumach -> new hurd's serverboot -> new hurd
new gnumach -> old hurd's serverboot -> old hurd
old gnumach -> new hurd's serverboot -> new hurd

Is that right?  Can you also test:

new gnumach -> old boot script -> old hurd
any gnumach -> new hurd's serverboot -> old hurd
[subhurd] new hurd's boot -> old boot script -> old hurd
[subhurd] new hurd's boot -> new boot script -> new hurd
