It's not related to remote_open.

When your server is started as part of your app, then its databases get
cleared when the app server restarts. It is considered part of app.

If you start the server as a separate process, this will not happen.

The database files should not get cleared by default. But if you disable
the log, then no data is logged until you perform a checkpoint.

As there are a few unknowns, you need to provide more information about
your database setup.
