  You can run dtlogin for XDMCP logins from exceed and disable dtlogin's
attempts to start a local X server.  Edit /etc/dt/config/Xservers
and comment out line at the bottom that lists what X server to start
locally.  Change
   *	Local local@console /usr/bin/X11/X :0
to
#  *	Local local@console /usr/bin/X11/X :0

In this use case[1], you don't need to start the Xserver on the HP-UX 
machine: The X applications running on the HP-UX server will communicate 
directly with the Exceed X server. All that you need is proper X11 
libraries installed on your system.
