Okay... I tried export CPPFLAGS=-D_INCLUDE__STDC_A1_SOURCE and it seems
to have included this in in the command line during build, but the
define for _GLIBCPP_USE_WCHAR_T in c++config.h is still commented out. I
manually uncommented the define but still got a bunch of other errors
compiling a simple test case instantiating a wstring class.

I've submitted a bug report but I wonder how fast the turnaround time
is. I'm quite amazed that such an obvious problem would remain
unreported for so long (since Oct, 2003). Anyway, it's no fun blindly
hacking away at these headers.

Possibly and related to Martin's Solaris issue in id=6702?

You may have to pass -D_INCLUDE__STDC_A1_SOURCE while building g++ and
using it and with STLPort?

You do need this with aC++, only if you want to use those functions.
