Yes, applications need to be >2GB aware. The problem was with the
application, not with the HP.
Bill Hassell hit it square on the head:
Important: all sysadmins should read the large files white paper in
/usr/share/docs. It applies to everyone, programmers and sysadmins!

Just a question I'm passing onto the list because a programmer is driving me
crazy. Since I'm not a C or C++ programmer I have no idea as to the answer.
When coding in aC++, does anything special have to be done to code (or
compiling) to do a fopen, fread on a file that is 2GB+ in size? We have an
application that was working just fine when files were < 2GB, but failed
when it hit the >2GB size. The application is from a vendor so source code
is not available, but the vendor says he is not aware of any issues.
