hmm.. I have had similar problems, one of the tips I received was.."put more ram in
the box", this actually fixed it a couple of times..
so try killing all unneeded programs to free up memory.
I also had this issue with after a patch, unfortunately I can't remember what
patch, and the ESC is down and won't let me in :(..
