     from a mainframe. 
     
     dd if=/dev/rmt/2mn of=file.out conv=ascii  
     
     and I get a file with one long line. if I try to vi or sed it, it 
     tells me line to long, can't exceed 3000.
     
     When I try to use ibs, obs or cbs with dd it just gets worse!
     
     any help is much appreciated.
