the original question was: what do i need to do to move a set of drives
comprising 1 volume group to another interface without loosing data?
thanks for the answers to following:
Scott Riley
Ilan Green
Alan Edmonds
mike.keighley
the sequence i did use was probably exactly what the respondents had in
mind, although it was slightly different from any of the examples (vol
group is named vgadd0, filesystem mount point is /t):
ioscan -fnC disk
vgexport -v -m /tmp/mapfile.vgadd0
umount /t
vgchange -a n vgadd0
shutdown -h 0
put the card in, move the cable to new card, fire up the computer
ioscan -fnC disk
mkdir /dev/vgadd0
mknod /dev/vgadd0/group c 64 0x040000
vgimport -m /tmp/mapfile.vgadd0 -p -v vgadd0 /dev/dsk/c5t0d0 ...
vgchange -a y vgadd0
end.
p.s. it is NOT a good idea to accidentaly power off the drive encosure
after the move, because it somewhat saps the confidence. julius
