Thanks to all who replied:

Bill Hassell, Tom Myers, and Frank Wales.

I must have had a brain fart/tumor (whatever). It would seem that I
attempted
to put the drives in ID 7, when that is where the controller is. I'll
change them
to 6 and try again tonight.

My original post appears below.

Thanks again,

Subject: [HPADM] Adding HP C3044 2G disk drives.
Date: May 28, 1995 13:48

I attempted to add a C3044 2G disk drive to my 800 yesterday.
 Unfortunately,
when I do this other drives after this one in the chain become unusable.
 Here's
the scenario:

HP 9000/817 running 9.04.
Two SE SCSI controllers, 44 and 52.
Sam shows this for physical devices:

44.1.0 lvm 1956086 SCSI Disk Drive
52.1.0 lvm 1956086 SCSI Disk Drive
52.2.0 lvm 1027432 SCSI Disk Drive
52.6.0 lvm 553144 SCSI Disk Drive

44.1.0 and 52.1.0 are HP C3010M1 disks, both are in vg01, as is 52.2.0 which

is
an HP C2247M1. I am trying to add three C3044UM disks at 44.3.0, 44.5.0,
and 44.7.0, and two at 52.3.0 and 52.5.0. What happens then is that they
show up under sam, but all of my vg01 drives are not tagged as unused.
I get 'CANNOT READ BLOCK xx' from fsck at boot time. Note that vg00
(52.6.0)
is still accessible. I think this is because it is the first drive on that
chain (internally
mounted). All the rest of the disks are mounted in two Mass Storage towers.

At first I thought this was because the drives were terminated (since they
are
earlier in the chain). So I pulled one out and had a closer look. I can't
see any
resistor packs, and the documentation that came with the drives doesn't tell

me
what all the jumpers are for.

Has anyone else installed these drives and had or didn't have this problem?
Am I on the right track with termination? If so, how do I fix it?

Thanks,
Wayne McCormick
