Turns out the channel information is needed in the NEW_DIR when using  
the "--install-dir NEW_DIR" argument of install-packages.php ... but  
how do you tell pear to do a "channel-discover" and put the result  
into NEW_DIR ? I copied the files manually, but it feels like  
something is missing (or maybe I'm confused).
