Sure, just checkout directly from CVS:

(You have to set your CVSROOT accrding to the quickstart guide)

cvs co -d server common datatype filesystem protocol

(This will get some stuff you don't need, but that's why you should use
the build system to check out)

You also won't get any dist components, but this will get you all the
source.
