The code obviously only works if the B_MOUSE_DOWN handling in 
PopUpSlider is using polling - because then the B_QUIT_REQUESTED would 
only be handled after the fact.
I don't know the specifics, but maybe some of our interface controls 
ignores the B_ASYNCHRONOUS_CONTROL flag.
