 First you need to install mozc (it is available in haikudepot but
 currently not installed by default).

 Then, there should be a keyboard icon in Deskbar, from which you can
 switch between "romanji" (your uusal latin alphabet) and "mozc2" (japanese
 input)

 When you switch to mozc, all keyboard input results in a popup window
 where characters are combined. Pressing enter or space validates a word
 and moves to the next one. When there are multiple possible completions
 for a word, there is also a popup menu to select which one you want. You
 can navigate it with up/down arrows.
