 UPDATE: Curiouser and curiouser...

 Deciding I didn't have too much to lose, I jumped track to the nightlies
 and updated to that - hrev55362 works fine - no issues on boot.  Go
 figure.  Maybe just leave it be unless someone comes up with the same
 issue.

 I really appreciate yoour assistance @vidrep and @waddlesplash - love the
 community spirit in Haikuland!
