Comment:

 If the mp3 ..etc files had a different sampling rate than WAV files this
 ticket would remind me of #9438, but I gather from the above it's not the
 case? @Giova84 maybe try anyway to change the "HDA Output sampling rate"
 (if you're using HDA) in media preferences, see if it changes things.
