Comment(by kaliber):

 CVS doesn't work because of broken mbrtowc() in libroot. It can be
 workarounded by disabling mbrtowc in cvs:
 1. ./configure --prefix=/boot/common
 2. remove line: HAVE_MBRTOWC in config.h
 3. make && make install
