 I have an IBM 570E sitting right next to me that does that same thing.
 But other than showing an invalid video mode it's doing everything else
 that it should, like not allowing you to pick an unsupported video mode.
 It's much better than it was a few months ago.  See the bad colors
 screenshot of ticket #1169
