Just a FYI. I've been writing C++ for 10 years or so, and I even did
some work on an SMP/NUMA-friendly version of the original Cfront
compiler. I have *never* used a smartpointer except when gtkmm forced
me to do so. I suspect that more than 50% of all C++ programmers are
not familiar with them, and even more have never used them, but I have
no actual numbers to base that claim on.
