I've been trying to get grub2 to work on a Mac Mini.

I burned /usr/lib/grub-rescue-efi-amd64/grub-rescue-cdrom.iso

and it boots to a black screen with a blinking cursor, no prompt, no
response from the keyboard. This came from the Ubuntu package

---

This package contains two GRUB rescue images that have been built for use
with the EFI-AMD64 architecture, such as the one provided by Intel Macs
(that is, unless a BIOS interface has been activated):

  - grub-rescue-cdrom.iso: El Torito CDROM image.

----

Shouldn't I at least get a prompt?

My main goal is to be able to boot Ubuntu from a USB drive. What I have
been doing is booting grub-legacy from cdrom (which doesn't see the usb
drive), which then accesses /boot from an internal drive, which then
boots root= off the USB.

I've also tried a non-efi grub2 cd, which like the legacy doesn't see
the usb drive.
