Details:

Since btrfs now has a choice of gzip or lzo compression grub needs to support
lzo compressed extents in addition to gzip compression. This is particularly
pressing since once a filesystem is mounted with -o compress=lzo, grub will
refuse to read any subvolume on that filesystem even with no compressed
extents.
