Hi, all!

This is the second (and last) direct mail to a number of people whose mailing
addresses we happen to know.

A short description of our intentions: we want to prepare and organize a joint
booth at the LinuxTag 2003 exhibition in Karlsruhe/Germany. LinuxTag is the biggest
single Linux event in Europe. We want to assemble a joint effort of various Free
Software projects to show how much office productivity is now possible based on
Linux as a desktop system. We want to include document creation, desktop
publishing, scanning, faxing, digital photography, optical character recognition,
archiving of scanned documents, printing and possibly groupware.

We are only beginning now. We want your help. We are not experts in all these
fields. You probably know more than we in one or various of the named items.
Please help us. Please join in the effort. We need the support of programmers
as well as of people who are good writers, artists, photographers and other
friends willing to support.

Probably you received our first mail already. If not, you can re-read it at

     http://mailman.linuxtag.org/pipermail/officeproductivity/2002-October/000000.html

There were some problems with the first mail. We had sent it to ~100 recepients,
but unfortunately it seems to have been withhold by spam filters before it reached
some of the intended recipients. We hope it works out better this time.

In the meantime we got setup a mailinglist, hosted by LinuxTag.org. We kindly
ask you to subscribe to this list, if you are interested to contribute ideas,
suggestions and work to the "OfficeProductivity" project (or if you are just
curious to see how it develops... [;-)]

You can subscribe to the list here:

Here are a few FAQs we received about the project:

Q: Do I need to come to LinuxTag 2003 to support this project?
A: No. If you are not sure that you can come, you can still participate in the
discussions, contribute your ideas and do some other work in the preparation
    process.

Q: Do I need to have some well-known "credentials" or merits in the Open Source
or Free Software movement to join? Do I need to be a Linux geek or power user
    to help?
A: No. Everybody willing to contribute in a positive way is welcome.

Q: Do you accept the support of commercial companies?
A: Yes. As long as it is helping the cause we are trying to push. Details
will be discussed on the mailing list.

Q: What kind of support from companies do you envisage?
A: We do especially welcome offers to help us set up the technical infrastructure
of the booth: PCs, screens, printers, scanners, multifunctional devices,
digital cameras, faxes etc. will be very helpful.

Q: Are you still open for suggestions?
A: Yes. We are at a very early stage in the planning process. There is nothing
    "fixed" yet.

Q: Do you prefer a certain Desktop environment?
A: No. Contributions from *all* projects are welcome. Especially, we want to invite
both "big players", GNOME and KDE, to join.

Q: Are you prefering a certain Linux distribution?
A: No. Although we are inclined to start off using something "neutral" like
KNOPPIX, we can imagine to have various distros present, if they want to
support this initiative. (There will be more than one PC to present our
    projects....)

Q: I have this idea about what could be shown in your booth....
A: Please subscribe to the mailing list and participate in the discussion there.

Greetings to all,
Kurt Pfeifle & Till Kamppeter

P.S.: Please make sure that your replies go to both of us, Kurt and Till.
You can reach us via these addresses:

       Till -- <till.kamppeter@gmx.net>
