Hi all,

our latest release 2.1.0 happened 2002-06-23.

Since then, quite a lot of things happened:

- new cameras added
- bugs fixed
- separated libgphoto2+libgphoto2_port+camlibs from gphoto2 CLI
  and the manual
- moved CLI to popt
- moved gtkam to GTK+ 2.0

An increasing number of users is asking for the new cameras, thus
requiring them to build CVS code.

Therefore, I suggest to do a new release before christmas, around
2002-12-01 or earlier - in order to leave us some free time before
christmas :-)

Regarding version numbers, we should do a synchronized release of
gphoto2, libgphoto2 and gphoto2-manual with the same version number
(probably 2.1.1, or 2.2.0 to reflect the impact of the code
separation) and provide downloadable versions of the manual
(PDF and tarballs with HTML files). Probably a synchronized release of
gtkam is also advisable.

This way, we can get provide people with a clean starting point to
switch from gphoto2 to libgphoto2+X.

In order to prepare for the libgphoto2 release, I'd like to have
everybody go through his/her camlib's ChangeLog and add the changes
important for users (fixed support for model XY, added support for
model ABC) to the file CHANGES. And perhaps we should move the
contents of this file to NEWS and do away with the CHANGES file before
the release.

Additionally, I'd like people to check out any problems my CVS
snapshot source tarballs from

   http://n-dimensional.de/projects/digicam/software/snapshots/

may cause them as a preparation to provide clean release
tarballs. Regardless of whether the release tarballs will be prepared
by my gphoto-meta scripts (as my snapshots) or by Christophe, this
will reduce the effort for the release tarballs.

Gruß,

Uli
