Hi, all,

I'm forwarding an exchange I've had with Berthold Hoellmann for your

Now the examples reachable are a little polished for html, but more
important they include gif's. I think the gif's are helpful. Also try
'gnuplot borders.dem'. Maybe a nice reread example, but hard to cancel
at least on my computer. I think a more verbose, lengthly example would
much more helpful.

I was thining of enhancing the files in 'demo' by additional comments
like this:

##<GIF>set term gif
##<GIF>set out 'world1.gif'
##<PNG>set term gif
##<PNG>set out 'world1.png'
plot 'world.dat' with lines 3 4, 'world.cor' with points 1 2
##<HTML></pre>
##<HTML,GIF>will result in (gif mode)
##<HTML,GIF><IMG ALIGN=BOTTOM SRC=world1.gif>
##<HTML,PNG>will result in (png mode)
##<HTML,PNG><IMG ALIGN=BOTTOM SRC=world1.png>
##<HTML><pre>

to make it possible to stream edit the dem file. I should be possible to
produce the gifs and htmls from this. I like the idea to have only one
sourde for this. But I stopped it because of problems with portability.
First I'm not shure if I can rely on the existance of a stream editor on
all platforms. The second problem occured in 'vector.dem'. 'vector.dem'
contains some terminal swiches to term table and back to x11. This is of
course not portable. But the example bases on this. It would need a 'set
term default' like command.
