There's a newer version, available so far only as a 'not really official'
public beta release. You can get it here:

	ftp://cmpc1.phys.soton.ac.uk/pub/gnuplot-beta348.tar.gz

This version should compile out-of-the box on every current kind of Unix,
by use of a GNU autoconf style 'configure' script. 

We're still hoping to be able to make an official release of this or the
next beta, before Xmas this year.
