'bind'ing some events to actions would be highly terminal
dependent.

another solution would be to use a software package containing
all those interactive features (e.g. tcltk, perltk). the main program
would the be written in tcltk or perl and it would call gnuplot just
to generate the plot as a tk-canvas.
