  Yes, s390x is indeed 64 bit.  SUSE provides gmp 4.1.4 with SLES 10 for s390x, but not 
  the -devel packages.  So someone did get it to compile, either they got past the error 
  I'm getting, or they ignored it.  I need this package as a prereq to compile another 
  package.
  
What does gmp's config.guess print?
