-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 198 Sep 30 12:25 metadata-cache
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 159 Sep 30 12:25 nl-cache
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 674 Sep 30 12:25 virt

I checked the release notes for v8 & v9 and I can't find something like that.
It seems that group-samba still exists:
