CUPS and Gutenprint are separate projects maintained by different
teams.  It is not necessary for them to be in sync; new versions of
Gutenprint can be used with old versions of CUPS, and vice versa.

I can't speak for Windows; perhaps the manufacturers and Microsoft
arrange to bundle them or perhaps there's some other mechanism to
download them on demand.  We don't have any bundling arrangements with
Apple, although they at least used to provide Gutenprint with their OS
(their decision).

It is possible that these printers would work with the Generic PCL6
driver in Gutenprint, but based on the specs I'm not entirely
confident of that.  If you do try any of them, please let us know the
results.
