Have a Canon S820 and a Canon S900 (not in use)

When using the the 'Canon-S900-gutenprint-ijs-simplified.5.2.ppd'

There is nothing I can do to make it print proper colour, a deep purple colour \
prevails, the purple scourge I call it.

As I do know a bit about the Linux print stream and the function of the ppd file, I \
decided to try the the BJC-8200 ppd file.

This seems to have cured the problem, I get sensible colouring of my simple test \
file, only 2cm x1cm to save ink and paper.

I spent a lot of time dissecting the s820/s900 vs bjc8200 to figure out why the \
purple rot shows in s820/s900

Turned out to be one of the least expected items.

I will first copy a snippet of the s820 foomatic gutenprint ijs ppd file in question

*PPD-Adobe: "4.3"

*driverName gutenprint-ijs-simplified.5.2: ""
*driverType F/Filter: ""
*driverUrl: "http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/"
*driverObsolete: False

.................
..........

Well down into the file there is a 3 line section, in which I have replaced the \
bjc-S820 with bjc-8200 as follows

*FoomaticRIPOption Model: enum CmdLine A 100
*FoomaticRIPOptionSetting Model=bjc-8200: " -sDeviceManufacturer=Canon
-sDeviceModel=bjc-8200"
*End

This seems to have at least made the 'proper' ppd file behave like the ppd file for \
the BJC-8200 when used on the S820

I am not a programmer but I have had a quick look at the tar.gz file for 5.2.10 and \
gleaned enough to see that it is out of my range to do more digging.

The purple scourge also hits the matching cups gutenprint file but I have not found a \
cure here, ie using the cup gutenprint version from BJC-8200 has no effect.

summary:
Purple colour problem
Scale problem 2cmx1cm actually prints 2.3cmx1.15cm

The size I did not look into as it was not important to me at the time but the scale \
also came right when using the BJC-8200 ppd file.

Why and how is it the following line is so important to the colour?

*FoomaticRIPOptionSetting Model=bjc-8200: " -sDeviceManufacturer=Canon
-sDeviceModel=bjc-8200"

Handy
