I have downloaded Gutenprint and set it up. I've been doing a lot of trials
printing on CDs using black ink.
You won't be able to access true raw mode from the GIMP. You can

I've need two colors but I don't want to rewrite my programs so I've decided
to make each image in black, print the ESC code to a file, and find/replace
all the ESC i (color) commands with a different color...it's very simple in
a hex editor. I can then use the programs I've written to send the ESC code
to the printer.
The problem I've been having is that I need to make gradients approximately
half an inch square. The gradients will show how much of a protein solution
is required to do my experiments with. Therefore ideally I want a gradient
that will go linearly from 100% density to 0% density. Any suggestions on
getting a good gradient over such a small area? My first attempts have
yielded only black, with no visible gradient, or a non-linear overly dark
gradient.
You'd probably need to write an application that links against the

Thanks a lot for the help.
